‘Cleaner’: Daisy Ridley To Scale A Skyscraper In New Action Film From ‘Goldeneye’ Director Martin Campbell

Daisy Ridley has already proved her Jedi-level action chops in the Star Wars universe, to which she’ll return as Rey soon enough. But she’ll have a shot at a more conventional action movie with Cleaner, a Die Hard-esque film from veteran filmmaker Martin Campbell.

Cleaner is another of the hot titles being shopped at Cannes. Set at London’s The Shard, the tallest building in all of Western Europe, Rey plays Joey Locke, an ex-soldier turned window washer who must save employees from an energy company who are taken hostage by radical activists bent on exposing the company’s corruption. Suspended 90 stories up in the air, Locke must find a way to stop the attackers and the zealous extremists within their ranks, while also bringing the corrupt corporate execs to justice.

Daisy Ridley is basically John McClane, right? Sounds perfect in the hands of Campbell, who is best known for directing two Bond films, Goldeneye and Casino Royale. He most recently helmed the Liam Neeson thriller, Memory, and the hit-woman flick The Protégé. He just completed shooting on another female-led actioner, Dirty Angels, which features Eva Green, Ruby Rose, and Maria Bakalova.

Female on Cleaner begins this summer, and hopefully, we’ll get to see Ridley scaling the actual building itself. Tom Cruise would totally do it, then jump off of it onto an airplane. [Deadline]
