The True Detective brand is one that HBO simply won’t let go of, even though the crime series has never met the heights of that incredible first season. However, there’s a lot of anticipation for the latest, True Detective: Night Country, which finds Jodie Foster and Kali Reis investigating a missing persons’ case in the icy night of Alaska.
Issa López, Mexican filmmaker behind the 2017 cult favorite Tigers Are Not Afraid, is writer and director of each episode, replacing Nic Pizzolatto who had been spearheading the first three seasons. Filling out the cast are Fiona Shaw, Finn Bennett, Isabella Star Lablanc, Aka Niviâna, and Anna Lambe. Joel D. Montgrand, Christopher Eccleston, and John Hawkes.
Here’s the synopsis: When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.
True Detective: Night Country lands on HBO and Max later this year.
