‘Heat 2’: Michael Mann Eyes Sequel To Crime Classic, Adam Driver In Talks To Star

It’s only taken 30 years, but Michael Mann is finally getting what he’s wanted; a sequel to his 1995 crime classic, Heat. Deadline reports that Warner Bros. is in negotiations to back Heat 2, and not only that, but Adam Driver is being eyed to star as a young Nel McCauley.

Mann teamed with co-writer Meg Gardiner on a bestselling Heat 2 novelization. There has been a lot of talk about adapting it for the screen, most of it by Mann who said months ago that work was already being done on it.

The crime story takes place across two time periods, acting as a prequel and sequel to the 1995 film with young versions of the characters played by Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, and Val Kilmer. In the first period, Chris Shiherlis tries to escape the LAPD after the robbery gone wrong, making his way to Southern Asia. The other time period is in 1988 Chicago, as McCauley and Shiherlis and their crew nearly encounter Detective Hannah as he pursues a violent gang of home invaders.

Mann is currently hard at work wrapping up Ferrari, which also stars Driver.  No other talent is attached to the Heat sequel just yet, including De Niro, Pacino, or Kilmer.
