Kenneth Branagh seems to be personally bringing back movies for old folks with his Agatha Christie adaptations. 2017’s Murder On the Orient Express and last year’s Death On the Nile have been huge, all-star affairs perfectly timed to the re-emergence of mystery thrillers. But with the latest sequel, A Haunting in Venice, horror is on the menu.
Based on Christie’s novel Hallowe’en Party, the latest Hercule Poirot detective story finds him solving a murder at a séance he attended.
Again I ask, why does anyone invite Poirot anywhere? Someone always ends up dead! Why isn’t he the most logical suspect?
Branagh suits up once again as Poirot, joined by a star-studded ensemble of Tina Fey, Kyle Allen, Camille Cottin, Michelle Yeoh, Kelly Reilly, Emma Laird, Riccardo Scamarcio, Ali Khan, and reunited Belfast duo Jamie Dornan and Jude Hill. Michael Green returns as screenwriter, having written every film in the series so far.
A Haunting in Venice hits theaters on September 15th.
“A Haunting in Venice” is set in eerie, post-World War II Venice on All Hallows’ Eve and is a terrifying mystery featuring the return of the celebrated sleuth, Hercule Poirot. Now retired and living in self-imposed exile in the world’s most glamorous city, Poirot reluctantly attends a séance at a decaying, haunted palazzo. When one of the guests is murdered, the detective is thrust into a sinister world of shadows and secrets.
