When Shallow Hal was released way back in 2001, it was another smash hit for the Farrelly Brothers, and a film that established Jack Black as one of our biggest comedy superstars. Nowadays it’s remembered for being wildly inappropriate in its humor aimed at overweight people. Well, Black and the Farrellys are reteaming on something a little bit different this time; a holiday comedy titled Dear Santa.
Deadline reports that Jack Black will star in Dear Santa, to be directed by Bobby Farrelly and produced by Peter Farrelly. The story follows a young boy who wants to send a letter to Santa Claus for Christmas, only for it to instead be delivered to Satan in one epic mix-up. The Farrellys and Ricky Blitt have written the most recent version of the script.
Also in the cast are Robert Timothy Smith, Keegan-Michael Key, Brianne Howey, Hayes MacArthur, PJ Byrne newcomer Jaden Carson Baker, Kai Cech, and Austin Post.
The Farrelly Brothers have gone their separate ways when it comes to their directorial careers. Peter has taken a route that led to his film Green Book winning the Oscar for Best Picture. Meanwhile, Bobby recently directed the underdog comedy Champions which is very much in line with the films he and his brother used to make.
Coming up for Black is voicing Bowser in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, as well as voicing Claptrap in the Borderlands film.
