‘Smoking Causes Cancer’ Trailer: Quentin Dupieux Is Back With A Bizarre Twist On Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

Quentin Dupieux is back! And if you know what that name means, you already know to expect something extremely weird. Know many other filmmakers who can make a movie about a sentient car tire? Or a money-making giant fly? No, that’s Dupieux’s odd wheelhouse, and he turns his crazy eye toward superheroes with Smoking Causes Coughing.

Dupieux’s film centers on a group of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers-esque heroes known as Tobacco Force, as they battle giant turtles and the Emperor of Evil Lézardin as they also face an internal struggle.

Gilles Lellouche, Anaïs Demoustier, Vincent Lacoste, Jean-Pascal Zadi, and Oulaya Amamra lead the cast.

Of course, this looks ridiculous in the way we expect from Dupieux. If you haven’t seen some of his earlier stuff, especially Rubber, Mandibles, and Deerskin, they’re worth seeking out for how nutty they are.

Smoking Causes Coughing hits select theaters and VOD on March 31st.

A wildly inventive new comedy from Quentin Dupieux (MANDIBLES, RUBBER), SMOKING CAUSES COUGHING follows the misadventures of a team of five superheroes known as the Tobacco Force – Benzene (Gilles Lellouche), Nicotine (Anaïs Demoustier), Methanol (Vincent Lacoste), Mercury (Jean-Pascal Zadi), and Ammonia (Oulaya Amamra). After a devastating battle against a diabolical giant turtle, the Tobacco Force is sent on a mandatory week-long retreat to strengthen their decaying group cohesion. Their sojourn goes wonderfully well until Lézardin, Emperor of Evil, decides to annihilate planet Earth.
