Anthony Mackie Doesn’t Think Sam Wilson Would Lead The Avengers

Anthony Mackie doesn’t think Sam Wilson will lead the Avengers. This after being handed the shield by Captain America himself, and then coming to grips with the burden he now carries in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. While Sam may have accepted the challenge of being Captain America, Mackie thinks leading the team is a step too far. He told Empire

“Sam is the only character without superpowers. He’s just a regular dude hanging out with a bunch of weirdos. Being from New Orleans, I’ve been in a few fights. And heart and charisma never helped me in a fight. That usually just got me beat up.”

“So that might cause an issue when you go fight somebody like Thanos,” Mackie concluded.

Strange. That hasn’t stopped Hawkeye from being part of the team. Or Black Widow. But I guess to Mackie it’s different being the team’s leader rather than just a member.

Then again, who knows? Perhaps Captain America: New World Order will find Cap getting some powers of his own? We’ll find out on May 3rd 2024.
