Keanu Reeves has been doing a lot of talking about his comic book, BRZRKR, and it’s clear he has a lot of big plans for it. Over a year ago we learned that Reeves would be starring in a live-action movie and an anime series adaptation, written by The Batman co-writer Mattson Tomlin. Reeves didn’t have any info on a director, though, and it could be because he’ll do it himself.
Speaking with Collider, Reeves confirmed that he could direct BRZRKR, about an immortal warrior on a quest to find out the truth of his existence. But first he needs to read Tomlin’s completed script…
“I got it yesterday or two days ago. I haven’t read it yet.” Reeves said.
Reeves also suggested another draft could be written, and that he’s “33%” on the way to directing the film. If so, it’ll be Reeves’ first time behind the camera since 2013’s Man of Tai Chi, a really awesome martial arts film that I have praised on this site numerous times.
Reeves continued, “I know how it’s a lot of work, but the film that I directed, ‘Man of Tai Chi,’ was born, I became the director because I was part of the writing process, and I didn’t want to hand it over. I was like, oh, okay. I have to direct this. I’m not quite there yet on ‘BRZRKR’. I have to read the script, but I’m also interested in having a collaborator and what they could bring to it.”
It’s really simple. Reeves is only going to direct projects that he has a personal connection to. He co-created and co-wrote the BRZRKR comic, it uses his likeness, and it has become part of Reeves’ brand.
