Adonis Creed Is Battling The Past and The Past Hits Hard in the Trailer for ‘Creed III’

The Rocky is right up their with Star Wars or James Bond when it comes to iconic film franchises so it’s no surprise that it’s spin-off series Creed has seen financial success. What wasn’t guaranteed though is the insane quality of the films, the depth of story and impact of performance. Those accolades lay on the shoulders of Sylvester Stallone’s devotion to the heart of these films, the outstanding performances of Michael B. Jordan and Tessa Thompson and the pure talent of Ryan Coogler with a pen and behind the camera. It’s because of these points that Creed grew into a story that could stand on it’s own, outside of the shadow of it’s progenitor. The strength of the franchise doesn’t appear to be diminishing at all according to the just released trailer for the latest installment Creed III.

The story isn’t a new one. A guy gets uber-successful and at the height of his success someone from his past, usually someone that sacrificed something for them comes back into play. You almost always see this new character as having taken the fall for some crime back when they were teens. In Creed III this comes in the form of Damian Anderson played by the currently exploding in popularity Jonathan Majors. Anderson starts off just wanting help getting back on his feet but soon enough he lets it be known that he’s there for what should have been his.

The first thing you’re going to take away from this is “DAMN! Jonathan Majors got jacked!”. I’m not talking MCU personal trainer jacked, I’m talking Mike Tyson circa 1991 jacked. He is an insanely imposing figure and while Michael B. Jordan’s Adonis Creed is not 90 lbs weakling it’s hard to see how he’s going to stand toe to toe with Anderson. One thing is for sure, there’s going to be alot of hard hitting action. Jordan is taking his first shot at directing with this installment and from what we can see in the trailer he’s been paying attention and pulling everything he could from the titans behind the lens that he’s worked with.

Check out the trailer below and look for Creed III in theaters and IMAX on 3/3/23.
