‘Now You See Me 3’ Conjures Up ‘Venom’ Director Ruben Fleischer

SOMEBODY out there must have been clamoring for Now You See Me 3. I don’t know who they are, or what they have to use as blackmail, but it’s happening and the sequel now has a director.

Deadline reports that Ruben Fleischer will direct Now You See Me 3, continuing the adventures of the Four Horsemen, a team of illusionists who use their magic tricks to pull off heists. The previous films, one in 2013 and another in 2016, combined to earn nearly $700M so it’s easy to see why Lionsgate wants more, even if the reviews weren’t that great. Keep in mind, this is coming from a guy who had the first movie pegged as my most anticipated of that year, only to find it to be just aiight. The sequel was worse.

It’s unclear who is coming back to play the Four Horsemen, however. Now You See Me has boasted quite the line-up: Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Lizzy Caplan, Mark Ruffalo, Isla Fisher, Daniel Radcliffe, Michael Caine, and Morgan Freeman have all featured in previous films. In his comments about the news, Fleischer mentions Eisenberg and Harrelson by name, so we can assume they’ll be back.

Fleischer is best known for directing ZombielandVenom, and most recently, Uncharted. He’s good at making vanilla blockbusters with little signature style, and he won’t be called upon to change for this job, either. The script is by Pride & Prejudice & Zombies filmmaker Seth Grahame-Smith, taking over from Oscar-nominee Eric Warren Singer who was hired a couple of years ago.
