Eerie First Look At Christian Bale In ‘The Pale Blue Eye’ As Netflix Sets Awards Season Release Dates

Netflix has a reputation for rolling out the big guns during awards season. The streamer has had a few real contenders for the prize they ultimately want, an Oscar for Best Picture, with last year’s The Year of the Dog the closest they’ve come to it. Well, they’re gunning for it big time once again, dating four of their biggest fall movies for this December.

In a peek at the upcoming fall slate, Netflix has confirmed December release dates for anticipated prestige films White Noise by Noah Baumbach (November 25th in theaters, December 23rd streaming), Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths (November 4th in theaters, December 16th streaming), Sebastian Lilo’s The Wonder starring Florence Pugh (select theaters in November, Netflix in December), and Scott Cooper’s The Pale Blue Eye starring Christian Bale (theaters on December 23rd, Netflix on January 6th).

They join Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery in making a splash that month.

Included in the announcement is a rather ominous first look at Christian Bale in The Pale Blue Eye, a reunion with his Out of the Furnace and Hostiles director Scott Cooper. The Gothic thriller is based on Louis Bayard’s book about  “a series of fictional murders that took place in 1830 at the United States Military.”

Also in the cast are Gillian Anderson, Lucy Boynton, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Toby Jones, Harry Lawtey, Simon McBurney, Timothy Spall, Hadley Robinson, Joey Brooks, Brennan Cook, Gideon Glick, Fred Hechinger and Matt Helm.
