‘The Idol’ Teaser: Hot People Do Very Bad Things In New Series From The Weekend And ‘Euphoria’ Creator Sam Levinson

There aren’t many shows that I look at and instantly know I’m going to watch it. The Idol is definitely one that’s on my radar. From the duo of pop star Abel Tesfaye aka The Weeknd and Euphoria creator Sam Levinson, the series has all of the flash and style we expect from Levinson, only…sleazier?

Lily-Rose Depp stars in The Idol opposite Tesfaye, playing Jocelyn, an aspiring pop idol who enters into a dangerous True Romance-style relationship with an LA club owner. You won’t be shocked by anything here: the energetic music, the sex, the drugs; it’s all hot people doing really bad things.

A major creative overhaul doesn’t appear to have slowed things down too much. Acclaimed actress/filmmaker Amy Seimetz (The Girlfriend Experience) was initially attached to direct all episodes, but she left and it’s unclear who replaced her. Casting has changed, as well, with Suzanna Son (Red Rocket) replaced by Debby Ryan. Others in the cast include Rachel Sennott, Steve Zissis, Hari Nef, Juliebeth Gonzalez, Tunde Adebimpe, Elizabeth Berkley, and Kate Lyn Sheil.

The Idol is “coming soon” to HBO, but no exact date has been given.
