‘Furiosa’ Plot Synopsis Reveals A New Wasteland Threat

If it were up to fans of Mad Max: Fury Road (and who isn’t one?), George Miller would’ve started shooting a sequel the day after it was released in 2015. Instead, it’s been a long seven-year wait but filming on Furiosa is indeed underway in Australia with Anya Taylor-Joy in the lead role that Charlize Theron made instantly unforgettable. And now today a new updated synopsis sheds some light on who she will be going up against.

Collider revealed the new Furiosa synopsis, which confirms that she will face a new wasteland nemesis named Warlord Dementus, and he might be leading a group that we saw in Fury Road.

As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.

The Biker Horde could be the same freaks Furiosa encountered while trying to rescue The Wives. We never learned much about them, but this could be fleshing out their backstory and expanding the Mad Max mythos.

Also, if Dementus the villain character reportedly played by Chris Hemsworth? It could just as easily be one of the other prominent co-stars, like Tom Burke (who replaced Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), but I’d much rather see Hemsworth chew scenery as a megalomaniacal desert gang leader.

Furiosa opens in theaters on May 24th 2024.
