‘Spiderhead’ First Look: Chris Hemsworth, Miles Teller, And Jurnee Smollett Star In Netflix Sci-Fi Prison Thriller

Chris Hemsworth and Netflix are back in business together, following the unexpected streaming hit Extraction. Before we get the eventual sequel to that action flick, Hemsworth will be seen alongside Miles Teller in Spiderhead, directed by Top Gun: Maverick filmmaker Joseph Kosinski.

Based on the dystopian short story by George Saunders, Spiderhead centers on Hemsworth’s Steve Abnesti, a scientist in the near-future, who uses inmates at the titular prison as guinea pigs for his emotion-altering experiments. Teller plays Jeff, a test subject who falls in love with another, the mysterious Lizzy (played by Birds of Prey‘s Jurnee Smollett), and must do everything he can to outmanuever the experiments and rescue her.

Teller and Kosinski just can’t quite one another. The duo not only worked together previously on Top Gun: Maverick, but also firefighter rescue drama Only the Brave.

With Hemsworth, Teller, Smollett, and Kosinski on Spiderhead, it’s easy to see why Netflix has given it a prime summer slot on June 17th.
