The teaser trailer released for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore was barely even that. It was more of a “Hey, remember how much you love Harry Potter?” nostalgia piece, meant to celebrate the fans who have stuck with the franchise through 20 years, not to mention Johnny Depp’s scandals and JK Rowling’s idiotic comments.
The latest is more traditional, and follows a brewing war between the forces of good, led by a suave young Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) and Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), against the evil Gellert Grindelwald, played now by a third actor, Mads Mikkelsen, who replaces Depp and before him, Colin Farrell. Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Callum Turner, and more return to the cast, as well.
Some retooling was necessary after the second film, The Crimes of Grindelwald failed to excite fans or do particularly well at the box office. The pandemic caused a reshuffling of the release date, along with the addition of Mikkelsen who came in late to replace Depp.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore opens April 5th 2022.
Professor Albus Dumbledore knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?
