Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series Hollywood may have received mixed reviews, but it appears to have set the stage for a new exploration of Tinseltown’s homosexual culture post-WWII. Deadline reports Fox Searchlight has brought Luca Guadagnino, Seth Rogen, and Evan Goldberg to develop a feature film based on Matt Tyrnauer’s doc Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood.
Guadagnino will direct, with Rogen and Goldberg penning the story of Scotty Bowers, a WWII veteran who became a legendary bisexual male hustler and date arranger for many actors looking to keep their homosexuality secret. The doc was based on Bowers’ incendiary book, Full Service: My Adventures in Hollywood and the Secret Sex Lives of the Stars, about his life setting up discrete encounters for closeted celebs from the 1940s to the start of the AIDS epidemic in the early ’80s.
Add this to what is already a busy time for Guadagnino. The Call Me by Your Name filmmaker has HBO miniseries We Are Who We Are coming up, along with a Scarface remake and Lord of the Flies adaptation. Rogen will be seen next in HBO Max comedy An American Pickle.
