‘The Fire Inside’ Trailer: Ryan Destiny And Brian Tyree Henry Star In Rachel Morrison And Barry Jenkins’ Boxing Drama

Awards season buzz is quickly building for The Fire Inside, acclaimed cinematographer Rachel Morrison’s directorial debut that had its world premiere at TIFF just days ago. With a script by Oscar winner Barry Jenkins, and an apparently amazing lead performance by Ryan Destiny, the underdog sports drama seems poised for big things, and that’s why Amazon MGM have wasted no time in releasing a trailer for us to see.

The Fire Inside is based on the true story of champion boxer Claressa Shields, considered by many to be the best ever, as the Flint, MI fighter trains for the 2012 Summer Olympics. The film was formerly titled Flint Strong back when it was announced five years ago, and is based on the 2015 documentary, T-Rex.

Destiny plays Shields, joined by Oscar nominee Brian Tyree Henry and Judy Greer.

SYNOPSIS: THE FIRE INSIDE is the inspirational true story of Claressa Shields, arguably the greatest female boxer of all time. Claressa, a high school Junior from Flint, Michigan, aided by her tough-love coach, Jason Crutchfield, pushes past all limitations to become the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in boxing. But even at the pinnacle of success, Claressa has to reckon with the fact that not all dreams are created equal, and the real fight has only just begun.

Amazon MGM will release The Fire Inside into theaters on Christmas Day.
