Debuting to rave reviews at Cannes earlier this year, Clarissa, the contemporary reimagining of Virginia Woolf’s novel, Mrs. Dalloway, is set to hit theaters in December from NEON. Before that, the acclaimed drama from Nigerian twin brothers Arie Esiri and Chuko Esiri will screen at the Middleburg Film Festival later this month. You can get tickets here.
Sophie Okonedo, David Oyelowo, and Ayo Edibiri star in Clarissa, about a socialite in Lagos, Nigeria, preparing to host a lavish party for her husband’s colleagues. The event and the encounter with old friends cause Clarissa to reexamine her past and the choices she made that have led her to this moment.
Also in the cast are India Amarteifio, Toheeb Jimoh, and Nikki Amuka-Bird. Okonedo, a previous Oscar nominee for her role in Hotel Rwanda, was set to play Clarissa before the script was even written. The Esiri brothers say she was the only actress they had in mind for it.
Clarissa opens in theaters on December 11th.
