‘Deep Water’ Trailer: Aaron Eckhart And Ben Kingsley Star In New Shark Thriller From ‘Deep Blue Sea’ Director

Fresh off the mixed/negative response to his The Strangers trilogy, veteran director Renny Harlin has gone back to familiar territory: sharks.  The Deep Blue Sea filmmaker is making the ocean scary again with Deep Water, a new thriller starring Aaron Eckhart and Ben Kingsley.

Directed by Harlin from a Pete Bridges and John Kim script, Deep Water centers on international passengers on a flight from Los Angeles to Shanghai that crashes into shark-infested waters.

Joining Eckhart and Kingsley in the cast are Molly Belle Wright, Angus Sampson, Kelly Gale, and Li Wenhan. Wright is a real star to watch, as she’s great in the upcoming drama Omaha (review here) that opens in April. Sampson will be recognizable to horror fans for his role as Tucker in multiple Insidious films.

Interestingly, Deep Water is the first film in the new production company launched by KISS rocker Gene Simmons and producer Gary Hamilton. The film will be distributed by Magenta Light Studios, the team behind cult hit Strange Darling.

Synopsis: A flight from Los Angeles to Shanghai goes down in the middle of the Pacific. After surviving the crash, the survivors soon discover they’re not alone and they must survive the shark infested waters.

Deep Water opens on May 1st.
