‘At The Sea’ First Look: Amy Adams In Kornél Mundruczó’s New Drama Debuting In Berlin

Amy Adams hasn’t had a truly great role in a decade, not since Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival. She’s stayed pretty busy since then, but her recent work in films Sam & KateNightbitch, and Disenchanted has been forgettable at best. But there’s plenty of hope for her next project, At the Sea, which was just announced as part of the upcoming Berlin Film Festival slate and we have a first look.

So what’s so promising about At the Sea? First of all, it’s directed by Kornél Mundruczó, the Hungarian filmmaker known for the acclaimed films White God and Pieces of a Woman. It will be co-written by Mundruczó and Kata Wéber, and together they have always done their best work.

Adams plays a woman who, after a long rehabilitation, returns to her family’s beach home where she must readjust to life and face a future without the career that gave her an identity.

Also in the cast are Murray Bartlett, Brett Goldstein, Jenny Slate, Dan Levy, Chloe East, and Rainn Wilson. An excellent group to surround Adams.

There was some hope that At the Sea would’ve debuted last year, but delays made that impossible. The timing is right for an Adams comeback. She’s a six-time Oscar nominee and is overdue for her next great role.
