All of those years of playing the comedic foil to Tyrese Gibson are about to pay off for Ludacris. Universal Pictures is giving the longtime Fast and the Furious castmember his own action vehicle, Limited Edition. And not only that, but it’s coming from producer David Leitch (Bullet Train, Hobbs & Shaw) and his 87North banner, with Novocaine directors Dan Berk and Robert Olsen behind the camera.
Berk and Olsen will write and direct Limited Edition, with Chris “Ludacris” Bridges starring. Deadline doesn’t have any details on the plot, but the title suggests something extremely rare and valuable. The story was conceived by Justin Calen-Chenn, who wrote the earliest draft.
Again, Ludacris has earned this. He’s been playing Tej Parker since 2 Fast 2 Furious in 2003, and will return for the eleventh and final movie.
The duo of Berk and Olsen will seem like a natural fit for the 87North style of action movie, which includes Nobody, Nobody 2, The Fall Guy, and Silent Night. They scored a minor hit with the Jack Quaid action-comedy Novocaine (which I interviewed them about), as it opened at #1 and earned $34M at the box office. [Deadline]
