By now you’ve likely heard the name Colleen Hover a lot. The author whose book It Ends with Us became a smash hit for Blake Lively last year, has multiple adaptations of her work on the way. That includes Regretting You, which opens this weekend. And what better time to debut the trailer for the next Hoover film, Reminders of Him, with a screenplay she co-wrote herself.
Maika Monroe (Longlegs) and Tyriq Withers (I Know What You Did Last Summer, HIM) lead the cast. Monroe plays a woman and ex-con trying to rebuild her life and connect with the daughter she never got to know, only to find that her parents are standing in the way. Withers plays an ex-NFL pro who she develops a secret romance with.
How is this not a crossover with the Jordan Peele football horror, titled Reminders of HIM? Talk about a missed opportunity!
Call me crazy, but it seems these Hoover adaptations are getting cheesier with each one. But it won’t be the last of her writing to make the big screen so we might as well get used to it.
The film is directed by Vanessa Caswill, who previously helmed the Netflix rom-com Love at First Sight with Haley Lu Richardson.
SYNOPSIS: After a perfect outing with her boyfriend, Kenna (Monroe) makes an unbearable mistake that sends her to prison. Seven years later, Kenna returns to her hometown in Wyoming, hoping to rebuild her life and earn the chance to reunite with her young daughter, Diem, whom she has never known. When Diem’s custodial grandparents adamantly refuse Kenna’s attempts to see her daughter, Kenna discovers unexpected compassion, and then something truer and deeper, with former NFL player and local bar owner Ledger (Withers). As their secret romance develops, so do the dangers for both of them, leading Kenna toward heartbreak and, ultimately, the hope for a second chance.
Reminders of Him opens in theaters on March 13th 2026 from Universal Pictures.
