Given their many collaborations, it’s unsurprising whenever Richard Linklater and Ethan Hawke have another movie together. The latest, Blue Moon, is a biopic of Broadway songwriter Lorenz Hart, half of the famous Rodgers & Hart songwriting team. While the film doesn’t arrive until October from Sony Pictures Classics, it’s already earning accolades. At the Berlin International Film Festival it earned two award nominations, with a Best Supporting Actor win for Hawke’s co-star, Andrew Scott.
Here’s the synopsis for Blue Moon: Tells the story of Lorenz Hart’s struggles with alcoholism and mental health as he tries to save face during the opening of “Oklahoma!”
Joining Hawke in the cast are Margaret Qualley, Bobby Cannavale, Andrew Scott, Jonah Lees, Simon Delaney, Cillian Sullivan, Patrick Kennedy, and John Doran.
Linklater directed from a screenplay by Me and Orson Welles author, Robert Kaplow. This is the ninth time Linklater and Hawke have worked together. Their most notable team-up was on the ‘Before‘ trilogy alongside Julie Delpy.
Blue Moon will open in NY and LA on October 17th, with a wider rollout on October 24th.
