A ‘John Wick’ Anime Prequel Will Answer A Big Question About His “Impossible Task”

Who was John Wick before he first meet him, a retired assassin trying to live a life of peace? We know that it was an “impossible task” that only he could pull off that led to him finally retiring his guns, and now we’re going to see what that mission was…in anime form.

In THR’s retrospective on the 10th anniversary of John Wick (Ten years already!?!?!), director Chad Stahelski revealed that a “crazy and nutty” anime prequel is in the works. While story details are under wraps, we know it will take us to that “impossible task” that allowed John Wick to retire for love, get a dog, live a life of domesticity. All of the stuff that we saw ripped away from him in the first movie.

This is a slick move, especially as questions remain about a John Wick 5. As Keanu Reeves gets older, continuing the franchise in an animated style is smart and saves the actor from the usual wear and tear.

Also coming up for the John Wick universe is the Ballerina spinoff starring Ana de Armas. There’s also the spinoff series Under the High Table, and a movie for Donnie Yen’s Chapter 4 character Caine.
