‘The Six Triple Eight’ Trailer: Tyler Perry’s WWII Drama Stars Kerry Washington As A Trailblazing Officer

It’s easy to dismiss Tyler Perry as that guy who makes those terrible Madea comedies, but look at his total resume and you’ll find he’s done quite a lot more than that. Especially recently, when Perry has directed serious dramas such as A Jazzman’s Blues, Mea Culpa, and Divorce in the Black. For his third movie of 2024, Perry embarks on his biggest film yet with The Six Triple Eight, a WWII drama the first and only army battalion to include women of color.

Based on Kevin M. Hymel’s 2019 WWII History magazine article, The Six Triple Eight stars Kerry Washington as Major Charity Adams, the first African-American woman to be an officer in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps and commanding officer of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion.

The film was written and directed by Perry, with new music by Diane Warren and H.E.R.

Joining Washington in the cast is a huge ensemble that includes Ebony Obsidian, Milauna Jackson, Kylie Jefferson, Shanice Shantay, Sarah Jeffery, Pepi Sonuga, Moriah Brown, Jeanté Godlock, Jay Reeves, Jeffery Johnson, Baadja-Lyne Odums, Donna Biscoe, Gregg Sulkin, Scott Daniel Johnson, Susan Sarandon, with Dean Norris, and Sam Waterston, and Oprah Winfrey.

SYNOPSIS: THE SIX TRIPLE EIGHT is inspired by the first and only Women’s Army Corps unit of color to serve overseas in WWII. Despite facing racism and sexism – and grueling working conditions – they were committed to serving their country with honor and distinction. Given an extraordinary mission and united in their determination, these unsung heroes delivered hope and shattered barriers. Written and directed by Tyler Perry, the film stars Kerry Washington as Major Charity Adams, the commanding officer of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion. Produced by Tyler Perry, Nicole Avant, Angi Bones, Tony L. Strickland, Keri Selig and Carlota Espinosa, the film features an ensemble cast including Ebony Obsidian, Milauna Jackson, Kylie Jefferson, Shanice Shantay, and many more.

Six Triple Eight hits select theaters on December 6th, followed by Netflix on December 20th.
