Less than a month since the last trailer for Lee was released, Roadside Attractions and Vertical have dropped another one for the Kate Winslet biopic about legendary war photographer, Lee Miller!
Winslet as Lee Miller, who left a life as a fashion model behind for a career in journalism as a war photographer. This is a different role for Winslet, even though she has played real-life historical figures many times before. Miller is someone who battled childhood tragedy, gained fame as an adult, then gave it up to shoot some of the most indelible images from the frontlines of WWII.
The film is directed by Ellen Kuras in her feature debut. Kuras is best known for her work as a cinematographer, having shot Winslet in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and A Little Chaos.
Winslet is surrounded by a remarkable cast. Marion Cotillard, Andrea Riseborough, Andy Samberg, Noemie Merlant, Josh O’Connor, Alexander Skarsgard, Arinze Kene, Vincent Colombe, Patrick Mille, and Samuel Barnett co-star.
Here’s the synopsis: LEE, the directorial feature from award-winning Cinematographer Ellen Kuras, portrays a pivotal decade in the life of American war correspondent and photographer, Lee Miller (Kate Winslett). Miller’s singular talent and unbridled tenacity resulted in some of the 20th century’s most indelible images of war, including an iconic photo of Miller herself, posing defiantly in Hitler’s private bathtub. Miller had a profound understanding and empathy for women and the voiceless victims of war. Her images display both the fragility and ferocity of the human experience. Above all, the film shows how Miller lived her life at full throttle in pursuit of truth, for which she paid a huge personal price, forcing her to confront a traumatic and deeply buried secret from her childhood.
Lee opens in theaters on September 27th via Roadside Attractions and Vertical.
