A true renaissance man, Donald Glover wears many hats whether it’s as an actor in blockbuster movies and TV shows, or in his musical persona as Childish Gambino where he makes groundbreaking tracks. It was bound to happen, but Glover has combined both sides of his career by directing and starring in a movie, Bando Stone & the New World, which arrives later this year.
But first, the trailer is here and it looks weird. Glover, playing the titular Bando Stone, is seen as a guy trying to deliver mail to a woman, played by Fear and Texas Chainsaw Massacre actress Jessica Allain, in a nearly-abandoned town. Along with the woman’s child, they team up to try and survive attacks by weird monsters and other sci-fi strangeness.
Glover directs the film based on as script by Evil Wilder. The new Childish Gambino track, Lithonia, is heard playing throughout the trailer, and will be available on July 2nd. The full soundtrack will be available soon, and will mark his final album as a musical artist. He had previously announced his retirement from music after two more releases, the first of which was Atavista, which dropped earlier this year and was a “finished” re-issue of 3.15.20.
As for the movie, it’ll be an IMAX special event later this year.
