It’s impossible to go on TikTok or Instagram without running into someone’s social media beauty care storefront. The beauty business is no joke, and with so many competing for the same customers, it’s no wonder the industry has begun to get cutthroat. And that’s where the new film Skincare comes in, as Elizabeth Banks plays a woman whose skincare business has become dangerously under threat.
As seen in the new trailer, Skincare stars Banks as an aesthetician whose skincare business is threatened by a rival who opens up a competing boutique. Together with a friend, she sets out to uncover who is trying to sabotage her life and career.
Banks is joined in the cast by Lewis Pullman, Luis Gerardo Méndez, Michaela Jaé (Mj) Rodriguez, and Nathan Fillion.
SYNOPSIS: In SKINCARE, famed aesthetician Hope Goldman (Elizabeth Banks) is about to take her career to the next level by launching her very own skincare line, but her personal and work lives are challenged when rival facialist Angel Vergara (Luis Gerardo Méndez) opens a new skincare boutique directly across from her store. She starts to suspect that someone is trying to sabotage her reputation and business, and together with her friend Jordan (Lewis Pullman) she embarks on a mission to unravel the mystery of who is trying to destroy her life.
The film was directed and co-written by Austin Peters, known for the Major Lazer documentary Give Me Future.
Skincare opens in theaters on August 16th from IFC Films.
