Simu Liu Confirms A ‘Shang-Chi’ Sequel Is Still Happening

So what’s the state of a Shang-Chi sequel? With all of the troubles Marvel had in 2023, leading to Disney CEO Bob Iger slashing the number of projects, it was unclear if we’d ever see the Master of Kung-Fu again on the big screen. But star Simu Liu tells fans not to worry because a sequel is indeed happening.

However, Liu doesn’t have a lot of details.  Appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Liu promised that Shang-Chi 2 is still in the works despite all of the cancellations and a lack of release date…

“This is where I use all the mental gymnastics that I possibly can to answer this question,” teased Liu. “I will say this–It’s definitely happening, I should probably lead with that. People, whether it’s online or in person, ask me every single day and tell me every single day how much they enjoyed the first movie and how much of a moment it was. And I think there’s just so much goodwill, and I’m so deeply appreciative of that.”

“So please know that if you’ve ever sent me a message, if you’ve ever asked about a sequel or just approached or any which way, I really take it to heart, and I really, really appreciate it, I do. I think I speak for myself and Destin [Daniel Cretton], our returning director, when I say that we’re so beyond excited to jump back in. We really are.”

He sounds pretty confident. There’s pretty good reason to be. For one thing, Marvel and Kevin Feige are clearly big fans of Destin Daniel Cretton, who is also working on a Wonder Man series. But Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was a rare pandemic-era hit, earning over $400M when it was released in 2021, not to mention solid reviews from fans and critics.

You can watch Simu Liu talk about the sequel below, and when Marvel Studios decides to give it a date, we’ll let you know.
