Maybe it’s because Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt were all over the Oscars broadcast, hyping up their new film The Fall Guy, but this doesn’t feel like the blockbuster’s second trailer. It feels like the one-millionth. The film loosely based on the classic TV series finds Gosling as a Hollywood stuntman wrapped up in a mystery involving the film’s lead actor and its director, who happens to be the love that got away.
Here’s the synopsis: He’s a stuntman, and like everyone in the stunt community, he gets blown up, shot, crashed, thrown through windows, and dropped from the highest of heights, all for our entertainment. And now, fresh off an almost career-ending accident, this working-class hero has to track down a missing movie star, solve a conspiracy, and try to win back the love of his life while still doing his day job. What could possibly go right?
Behind the camera is David Leitch, a former stuntman who has transitioned to one of the most successful filmmakers of studio blockbusters. Prior to this, he directed Bullet Train, Deadpool 2, Atomic Blonde, Hobbs & Shaw, and co-directed John Wick.
Joining Gosling and Blunt in the cast are Winston Duke, Hanah Waddingham, Stephanie Hsu, Teresa Palmer, and rumored 007 frontrunner Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
The Fall Guy hits theaters on May 3rd.
