The pairing of Alison Brie and director Jeff Baena (also her husband) is becoming quite the powerhouse in the indie comedy field. Brie starred in Baena’s directorial debut, Life After Beth, and the two have worked together recently on The Little Hours and Horse Girl, the latter they co-wrote together just as they did the new comedy, Spin Me Round.
Brie stars as Amber, a fast food restaurant manager who wins a corporate retreat to Florence, Itally. While she has hopes of an Under the Tuscan Sun-style romantic getaway with Nick, the franchise founder, others keep trying to tell her that something isn’t quite right about him.
Also reunited with Brie is her The Little Hours co-star Aubrey Plaza as Nick’s assistant. Alessandro Nivola plays Nick, with Molly Shannon, Zach Woods, Ayden Mayeri, Ben Sinclair, Tim Heidecker, Debby Ryan, Fred Armisen, and Lil Rey Howery as others along for the franchise’s educational retreat.
After her performance in Emily the Criminal I’m pretty excited for anything Plaza is doing, so count me in for this one.
Spin Me Round opens in theaters, VOD, and AMC+ on August 19th.
In ‘Spin Me Round,’ Alison Brie stars as the manager of an Italian restaurant chain who wins the opportunity to attend the franchise’s educational immersion program in Italy. What she thought would be a romantic getaway devolves into chaos and catastrophe.
