Rapper And WWE Superstar Bad Bunny To Star In Sony’s ‘El Muerto’ Spider-Man Spinoff

If you never got the chance to see superstar rapper Bad Bunny hit the WWE ring over the last couple of years, let me tell you, that dude is a natural! I’m talking about he’s one of those non-wrestlers who could easily make it in the biz if he committed to it, sorta like Stephen Amell and >sigh< Logan Paul. But instead, Bad Bunny will be putting his considerable athletic gifts to use on the big screen as he’ll be starring as the Marvel Comics luchadore El Muerto in another of Sony’s Spider-Man spinoff movies.

Announced at CinemaCon, Bad Bunny will star as Juan Carlos Sanchez, the superpowered Luchadore known as El Muerto! A relatively new character, El Muerto first appeared in 2006 and hasn’t made a ton of appearances. Sanchez was born into a long family line of mystically-powered masked wrestlers known as Luchadores, but he did not want to be part of this tradition. When his refusal costs his father’s life, Sanchez is given time to train before having to wrestle a masked hero, which turns out to be Spider-Man. While the match ends with Sanchez poisoned, he and Spidey end up working together to take down a more dangerous threat.

Chances are pretty good that Sony will alter the El Muerto backstory, but how much we’ll have to wait and see.

Bad Bunny is set to make his feature acting debut in the action flick Bullet Train opposite Brad Pitt and Sandra Bullock.

El Muerto doesn’t have a director yet, but Sony has given it a release date of January 12th 2024.
