Star Wars and holiday specials don’t exactly have a great track record, but fortunately, Disney’s new LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special looks like a ton of fun. And considering The Mandalorian is doing all of the franchise’s heavy lifting right now, something like this is a welcome treat and it gives us a chance to see Rey encounter a few familiar faces across time.
Similar to the original Holiday Special by George Lucas, this one centers around Life Day, which is basically the Star Wars version of Christmas. The story finds Rey (who is NOT voiced by Daisy Ridley) training in the Force, only to end up on a cross-time adventure in which she relives iconic moments from throughout Star Wars history. Since there isn’t much chance of Rey ever encountering Darth Vader in the main continuity, this is pretty cool.
The humor is clearly aimed at kids and that’s okay because the LEGO branded movies and games are designed for that.
So while we don’t have Ridley, John Boyega, or Oscar Isaac voicing their characters, we do get Kelly Marie Tran back as Rose Tico, Billy Dee Williams as Lando, Anthony Daniels as C3PO, and more.
The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special hits Disney+ on November 17th.
SYNOPSIS: Directly following the events of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” Rey leaves her friends to prepare for Life Day as she sets off on a new adventure with BB-8 to gain a deeper knowledge of the Force. At a mysterious Jedi Temple, she is hurled into a cross-timeline adventure through beloved moments in Star Wars cinematic history, coming into contact with Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Yoda, Obi-Wan and other iconic heroes and villains from all nine Skywalker saga films. But will she make it back in time for the Life Day feast and learn the true meaning of holiday spirit?
