If you were hoping Alex Garland would follow his massive Elden Ring movie with 28 Years Later 3, well, I’ve got some news. A reunion with Danny Boyle isn’t on the table for now, which isn’t surprising given the failure of The Bone Temple. However, Garland has an exciting new project on the horizon with A24, and it’ll pair him with Zendaya, arguably the biggest star in the world right now.
Deadline reports Garland will write and direct a new original sci-fi film for A24, with Zendaya set to star. The untitled project is set to shoot next year, but plot details are not yet available.
This continues Garland and Zendaya’s close association with A24. Garland has already worked with them on five movies: Warfare, Men, Elden Ring, Ex Machina, and Civil War.
Zendaya is attached to Barry Jenkins’ Ronnie Spector biopic, Be My Baby, also at A24. She gave the studio one of its biggest all-time hits earlier this year with The Drama, while also starring in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, The Odyssey, and Dune: Part Three. Nobody is doing more to fuel than box office than she is. Her recently-wrapped HBO series, Euphoria, is also with A24.
Chances are, this new project won’t arrive until after Elden Ring hits theaters in March 2028. Then again, it’s apparently a very small film, so maybe Garland and Zendaya can squeeze it in before then? Only time will tell.
