Zack Snyder’s long-awaited The Last Photograph premiered at TIFF a couple of weeks ago. I was there. It’s not very good, but not as bad as some critics would have you think. It probably will never find distribution, and at this point, I’m not sure Snyder thinks it will, either.
Snyder also seems to have lost faith in Rebel Moon 3 ever happening. At one point, he claimed there might be six movies in total. But after the first two flopped hard for Netflix, followed by two Director’s Cuts that nobody wanted, his deal with the streamer seems to be over. Snyder thinks that if Rebel Moon 3 ever happens, it will need a groundswell of support for the existing movies.
Speaking with The Direct, Snyder said “I don’t know. I made the director’s cuts of the movies, and I just think it’s like one of those things where… and I do feel that as those maybe get a little bit more popular and sort of like get discovered and there’s a little bit more groundswell about maybe making another one.”
Good luck with that. It’s a shame because Snyder’s output with Netflix wasn’t all bad. I thought Army of the Dead was quite a lot of fun. Twilight of the Gods didn’t make much sense, but it looked beautiful. Only lasted one season, though. Netflix balked at the $100M LAPD movie Snyder wanted to make. Nobody is going to give him that kind of money again.
Next up for Snyder is an Escape from New York remake. I’ll believe it when I see it.
