‘Resident Evil’ Trailer: Austin Abrams Makes A Nightmarish Trip To Raccoon City In Zach Cregger’s Latest

Zach Cregger’s Weapons was the surprise hit of 2025, not just breaking bank at the box office, but becoming the rare horror to make a splash at the Oscars, too. Cregger’s next film, Resident Evil, looks to be his biggest yet as it’s based on the popular Capcom video game, although you’d never know by looking at the trailers.

The latest trailer for Resident Evil also bears little resemblance to the long-running zombie horror games, other than a mention of the infamous Raccoon City. Austin Abrams, who had a key role in Weapons, plays a medical courier making a delivery, but ends up in a fight for survival after a viral outbreak.

Cregger directs from a script he co-wrote with Shay Hatten, who knows a thing or two about zombies from writing Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead.

Abrams is joined in the cast by Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Paul Walter Hauser.

Will Cregger’s new approach to Resident Evil be a hit that keeps the franchise alive? We’ll find out on September 18th.
