Coyote vs. Acme better be really goddamn funny, because the film has built a cult following around it nearly being shelved permanently by Warner Bros. The long and winding road for the live-action/animated hybrid is that the studio saw no value in the completed film and put it on ice, similar to what they did with Batgirl. Audiences had a damned fit over it. Ketchup Entertainment came to the rescue, and those fans will finally get to see what all of the trouble was worth on August 28th.
The final trailer for Coyote vs. Acme has been released, and appropriately enough, it’s an underdog story. Wile E. Coyote has spent decades trying to capture the Road Runner, only to fail time and time again due to faulty Acme gadgets. So he decides to sue the company for all of his pain and suffering, pitting John Cena and Will Forte as attorneys squaring off in the courtroom.
This being a Looney Tunes movie, the classic characters are in on the fun, including Bugs Bunny, Tweety, Taz, and Daffy Duck. Also in the cast are Tone Bell, Lana Condor, and Luis Guzman. Dave Green directed from a script by Samy Burch and a story co-created by James Gunn.
The most recent Looney Tunes movie to open in theaters was 2024’s The Day the Earth Blew Up, also by Ketchup Entertainment. It didn’t make a lot of noise, but it just about broke even at the box office. The hope is that Coyote vs. Acme will make them look like Super Geniuses.
