Werner Herzog’s Bucking Fastard not only has the best movie title of the year, by far, it might also have the wildest lead performances. You’ll understand why once you look at the new clip released ahead of the film’s Venice premiere, where it will screen in competition.
Bucking Fastard stars Kate and Rooney Mara as sisters Jean and Jane Holbrook, who set out to dig through a mountain range in search of an imaginary land where true love exists.
Pretty crazy, huh?
The clip finds the Mara sisters speaking together in perfect unison as they testify in court. Is the whole movie going to be like this? I sure hope so.
Herzog initially rejected a spot at Cannes because the film wasn’t offered a competition spot, icing the Maras out from being eligible to win acting awards. So Herzog instead took Bucking Fastard to Venice, where it will premiere in September. This is Herzog’s first narrative feature since Family Romance, LLC in 2019.
Also in the cast are Orlando Bloom and Domhnall Gleeson. Incredibly, this is the first time Kate and Rooney have made a movie together. They’re too good for that to be true, right? Hopefully, this won’t be the last.
