After a few years away making MonsterVerse flicks, Adam Wingard goes back to his indie thriller roots with Onslaught. The filmmaker behind You’re Next and The Guest, Wingard reunites with writer Simon Barrett on a story involving genetically engineered super-soldiers and a protective mother who is also a badass sniper.
Adria Arjona, who has been pretty badass herself in the series Andor and Richard Linklater Hit Man, leads the cast. She’s joined by Wingard favorite Dan Stevens, along with Rebecca Hall, Michael Biehn, Eric Wareheim, Reginald VelJohnson, Michael Biehn, Alex Pereira, and Drew Starkey.
SYNOPSIS: When a rogue squad of genetically engineered super soldiers break loose in the desert, a badass Army sniper must unleash hell to protect her young daughter.
It’s exciting to see Wingard going back to his gritty, small-budgeted roots as this is where he’s always been at his best. Few are better at making the most out of very little than him.
A24 will release Onslaught in theaters on September 4th.
