‘John Rambo’ With Noah Centineo Set For June 2027 Release

Rambo has a new war to wage, and he’ll do it in the heat of summer! Lionsgate has set a June 4th 2027 release date for John Rambo, starring Noah Centineo as the iconic soldier made famous by Sylvester Stallone. So far, it’s only competition on that date is an untitled Paramount Pictures project.

Sisu director Jalmari Helander will direct John Rambo, an origin film about the young soldier’s time during the Vietnam War. Author David Morrell created the character in his 1972 novel First Blood, which was then adapted into the classic 1982 movie starring Stallone as the PTSD-afflicted veteran.

The new film will have a script from Black Adam writers Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani.  They both worked with Centineo on that failed DCEU superhero flick. Stallone is attached, but only in an exec-producer capacity.

David Harbour has an interesting role as Major Trautman, Rambo’s commanding officer. Richard Crenna filled the role in three Rambo movies before he died in 2003. James Franco is also part of the cast, his first major American role since 2018.

Helander is the right guy for the job, based on the savage WWII action he delivered with Sisu and the sequel, Sisu: Road to Revenge. He also showed a flair for spectacular chaos and comedy with the films Big Game and Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale. Hopefully, John Rambo is a mix of warfare and comedy in the same vein as Helander’s previous work.
