From the surreal landmarks of Bruge, to the heartland of America, to the somber coasts of Ireland, predicting where Martin McDonagh is going to set his films is a foolish errand. His latest, Wild Horse Nine, takes place in another unpredictable location: Chile’s Easter Island in the conspiracy-fueled 1970s.
Vanity Fair has our first look at the anticipated Wild Horse Nine, featuring stars Sam Rockwell, John Malkovich, Steve Buscemi, Parker Posey, Tom Waits, Mariana di Girolamo, and Ailín Salas.
The film takes place in 1973 Chile, and centers on two CIA agents who face a trust-testing journey from Santiago to Easter Island following the agency’s coup to overthrow the Chilean government led by then-president Salvador Allende.
Searchlight Pictures has set Wild Horse Nine to hit theaters on November 6th, right in the thick of awards season. Makes sense, considering his last two films combined for 16 Oscar nominations.
