Not even death, literally being sliced in half at the end of The Phantom Menace, could keep Maul down. The villainous Zabrak and Sith is coming back into the spotlight with the upcoming Disney+ series, Star Wars: Maul-Shadow Lord, from Lucasfilm Animation and creator Dave Filoni. The series finds Maul, voiced once again by Sam Witwer, on a new planet, Janix, that has been untouched by the Empire, making it the perfect place for him to rebuild his criminal empire.
As seen in the new trailer, rebuilding isn’t the only thing on Maul’s mind. He’s also out for vengeance against the Empire that betrayed him, and to do that, he sets out to recruit Devon Izara, a young Twi’lek Jedi who has been on the run since Order 66 was set in motion by Emperor Palpatine.
Interestingly, if Izara becomes Maul’s new apprentice, will he continue to follow the Sith “Rule of Two”? If so, it could spell doom for anyone close to Izara, including her companion and the Jedi Master Eeko-Dio Daki, who will be voiced by Dennis Haysbert.
Also in the voice cast are Best Actor nominee Wagner Moura, Gideon Adlon, Vanessa Marshall, Richard Ayoade, Chris Diamantopoulos, Charlie Bushnell, Steve Blum, and A. J. LoCascio.
Star Wars: Maul- Shadow Lord premieres on Disney+ with two episodes on April 6th, with two episodes per week until May
