The myths of the American wild west have long struck a chord with international audiences, in particular Italians. It’s what gave birth to classic spaghetti Westerns that were so popular throughout the 1960s, and continue to influence the genre today. Filmmakers Alessio Rigo de Righi and Matteo Zoppis (The Tale of King Crab) are no different, and play into that love of gunslinger lore with Heads or Tails, which boasts American actor John C. Reilly as the legendary Buffalo Bill.
The film stars Nadia Tereszkiewicz as Rosa, and Alessandro Borghi as Santino. Rosa, the abused wife of a rodeo showman, flees with Santino after a deadly challenge involving Buffalo Bill’s traveling Wild West show. As they attempt to escape to America, Bill is right on their trail.
Heads or Tails‘ fictional interpretation of Buffalo Bill was a collaborative effort with Reilly, according to Righi, who said recently to THR…
“When John came on board, he was exactly what we were looking for, not only tonally. He also had some ideas and brought many insights into the character, including many ironic aspects, and what he could look like and what he could do. I remember John came up with how the character spoke. And he even proposed wearing the suit he wears in the second part of the film.”
Heads or Tails will open in theaters and digitally on April 10th courtesy of Samuel Goldwyn Films.
