‘undertone’ Trailer: A24’s Podcasting Horror Hits Theaters Next Month

It’s the unseen terrors that stick with us the most. What we can hear but cannot find is enough to send a chill up the spine, and that’s one of the hooks behind A24’s buzzy new horror, undertone, which recently played at the Sundance Film Festival. The film centers on a paranormal podcaster who is haunted by the ominous audio sent her way and listened to through her headphones.

The film’s one major on-screen actor is The Handmaid’s Tale actress Nina Kiri. She’s joined by co-star Adam DiMarco (only his voice is heard), Michèle Duquet, Keana Lyn Bastidas, and Jeff Yung.

Behind the camera is writer/director Ian Tuason in his feature debut, pulling from influences as varied as Paranormal Activity and Hereditary.

SYNOPSIS: A podcast host covering spooky content moves in to care for her dying mother. When sent recordings of a pregnant couple’s paranormal encounters, she discovers their story parallels hers, each tape pushing her toward madness.

A24 will release undertone in theaters on March 13th. You can check out my early review here.
