I kind of hoped that A24 would drop Kristoffer Borgli’s The Drama into the Sundance lineup, but nope. I guess it makes sense, because they’re playing very coy with the marketing. First, there was the cheeky engagement notice dropped into newspapers, and now today’s trailer teases a big secret that will turn this romantic comedy upside down.
Robert Pattinson and Zendaya star as a happily engaged couple who find their wedding weekend shaken up by a shocking revelation. It’s Zendaya’s character who is hiding this big mystery, with Pattinson left to cope with the repercussions. There are spoilers out there so if you want to know the twist, you can find out. Me, I’ve been keeping them at bay for a while and will keep at it for as long as possible.
Borgli has made a couple of twisted dark comedies already, Sick of Myself and the Nic Cage-starrer Dream Scenario. In short, expect something nutty to emerge. Ari Aster is a producer, as well.
Also in the cast are Mamoudou Athie, Alana Haim, and Hailey Gates.
The Drama hits theaters on April 3rd.
