After appearing to be dead as a doornail, Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Tomb Raider series for Prime Video is full steam ahead. Still, there are a lot of questions from fans who wonder if Sophie Turner was the right choice to play the iconic video game character, Lara Croft. That debate is sure to rage on today with our first full look at Turner as the popular adventurer.
Described by Prime Video as “fierce”, Turner’s take on Lara Croft is pretty faithful, bringing the sass and attitude that Angelina Jolie brought to the role in two Tomb Raider movies in the early 2000s. Alicia Vikander played Croft in a 2018 reboot that failed to launch a new franchise.
Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson. Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie and August Wittgenstein round out an impressive supporting cast.
Waller-Bridge’s take on Tomb Raider and Lara Croft is unclear, but she’s got a gift for writing witty, tough women who don’t take any crap. Expect plenty of that, for sure. She serves as writer, creator, and co-showrunner alongside Chad Hodge.
Prime Video has yet to set a debut date for Tomb Raider, but look for it sometime in 2027.
