‘Tomb Raider’: Sigourney Weaver Eyes Role In Prime Video Series Starring Sophie Turner

Sigourney Weaver, one of the iconic badass women on the big screen, wouldn’t have been a bad pick to play Laura Croft at one point in her stories career. But according to Deadline, Weaver is instead eyeing a supporting role in the upcoming Tomb Raider reboot series for Prime Video, opposite star Sophie Turner.

At this point, Weaver has yet to sign on the dotted line. She would be joining the latest attempt to reboot Tomb Raider, this one led by writer/exec-producer Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) and co-showrunner Chad Hodge. It’s unknown who Weaver would be playing.

Tomb Raider centers on the Indiana Jones-esque adventures of Lara Croft, as she travels around the world taking on dangerous quests to find rare archaeological treasures.

Lara Croft is one of the most popular video game characters in the world, and has led a multimedia franchise. Angelina Jolie played the character in two successful films, followed by Alicia Vikander in a failed 2018 reboot.

This continues an extremely busy time for Weaver, who will be seen later this month in James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash. She also has a role in the next Star Wars film, The Mandalorian and Grogu. This week, she can be seen in Bryan Fuller’s fantastical horror, Dust Bunny.
