New ‘Men In Black’ Film In The Works From ‘Bad Boys For Life’ Writer, Will Smith Could Return

The song says it all: “Here come the Men in Black.”  The sci-fi comedy franchise led by Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones has been on its heels since the lackluster performance of 2019’s spinoff Men in Black: International, but now Deadline reports that Sony Pictures has a new sequel on the way. And there’s reason to believe that Will Smith could return.

So what’s that reason? Bad Boys for Life screenwriter Chris Bremner, who will write this new Men in Black film. Neither Smith or Jones had any role in Men in Black: International, with the lead roles taken over by Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth. The film was only a modest success, earning $253M worldwide, a franchise low.

For now, though, Smith is not attached and won’t decide anything until he reads the script. His Agent J character is being written into the first draft, but it’s unclear if it’s as a major factor or a supporting role.

This is all very early days. After working together on two Bad Boys movies, Bremner and Smith are also collaborating on Netflix action flick Fast & Loose, to be directed by King Ivory‘s John Swab.
