So much for the Bad Boys reunion of Will Smith and Michael Bay that we were expecting to get with Netflix’s action flick, Fast and Loose. Deadline reports Bay has exited the film due to creative differences with Smith.
Penned by Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner and Eric Pearson, the story “follows a man who wakes up in Tijuana with no memories. As he pieces together his past, he learns he’s been living two lives: one as a crime kingpin and the other as an undercover CIA agent.”
The reason for Bay’s departure is that he wanted to lean into the film’s action elements, while Smith wanted more comedy.
It’s a little bit surprising that Bay and Smith, whose careers took off together with 1995’s Bad Boys, couldn’t come to an agreement. Then again, Bay has plenty of stuff on his plate including a possible return to the Transformers franchise, and an adaptation of the OutRun video game starring Sydney Sweeney.
Netflix hopes to begin shooting in October, so the search is on for a new director to keep things on track.
