This Thanksgiving, it’ll be turkey, dressing, and Demogorgons for millions of households. The fifth and final season of Stranger Things is finally here, and Netflix has revealed the full official trailer for the Duffer Brothers’ epic, apocalyptic conclusion.
Further cementing the blowout finale the Duffers have in store, the new season will drop in three massive volumes around the holidays. Volume 1 debuts on November 26th with four episodes, followed by Volume 2 on Christmas Day with three episodes, and the Finale on New Year’s Eve.
Here’s the synopsis: “The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time.”
In for one last full-throttle battle is the familiar cast of Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson, Brett Gelman, Cara Buono, Amybeth McNulty, Nell Fisher, Jake Connelly, Alex Breaux, and Linda Hamilton.
To me, this feels like the ramp-up to the action-packed, emotional conclusion of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I expect that some of our Stranger Things favorites won’t make it through this fight, and those who do will be forever changed.
